Firefighter bowls 300 at ‘Big’ fund-raiser

Statement as issued Monday:

FORT WAYNE, IN – Big Brothers Big Sisters would like you to congratulate Chris Smith of Kendallville on bowling a perfect game of 300 at the Bowl For Kids’ Sake in Noble County on Saturday, March 10 during the 3:00-5:00 PM session. Smith has been bowling for 14 years. This was the first perfect game that he has ever bowled.

“It is an amazing feeling,” shared Smith. “I only wish this would have been part of a sanctioned tournament!” Smith is a member of the Kendallville Fire Department which participated in Bowl For Kids’ Sake in Noble County with both a bowling team and as a sponsor.

Bowl For Kids’ Sake is a fundraising event for Big Brothers Big Sisters. Area people form a team of five friends, co-workers, or family members who want to help raise funds to support Brothers Big Sisters programs. Each team member is encouraged to raise pledges for Big Brothers Big Sisters programs and services. They then celebrate making a difference with bowling, food and prizes!

Participation in this event will help to ensure that local children will be matched with a caring adult mentor to make a BIG difference in their life

“This particular thing has not happened before in the 13 years that I have been a part of Bowl For Kids’ Sake in northeast Indiana,” stated Josette Rider, Executive Director of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northeast Indiana. “Chris is definitely making Bowl For Kids’ Sake history in our area.”

2012 marks the 40th Anniversary of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northeast Indiana. The agency is growing at a remarkable rate, but with that growth also comes the need for continued funding. “There is still time to help the over 600 children waiting for a Big Brother or Big Sister of their own by making a donation to Bowl For Kids’ Sake,” states John Drebenstedt, Bowl For Kids’ Sake event coordinator.

Please contact Big Brothers Big Sisters at 260.456.1600 or for more information on how to become involved. Big Brothers Big Sisters mentoring works to help broaden children’s perspectives and allow them to make good choices for the better, forever.

Big Brothers Big Sisters would like to thank this year’s major Bowl for Kids’ Sake sponsors for their dedication to making a difference through the 2012 Bowl For Kids’ Sake event: WMEE 97.3, BKD CPAs & Advisors, Indiana Michigan Power, International Truck and Thunder Bowl.
