And now a few more observations on the Madness So Far, as we all catch our breath before plunging back in again on Thursday ....
* Fully a quarter of the Sweet Sixteen is from the state of Ohio. You've got Ohio State, you've got Ohio, you've got Cincinnati, you've got Xavier.
At this rate, Ohio's rep as a football state will soon be an endangered species.
* So, North Carolina has lost its point guard, Kendall Marshall, to a broken wrist, just in time for the Sweet Sixteen. According to the smart guys, this all but dooms the Tar Heels' shot at the national title, and maybe even their chances to get to New Orleans and the Final Four.
I figure it this way: Any team that likely has to go through Kansas to get to the Final Four has an excellent chance, busted wrist or no busted wrist. Based on past performance and the way they almost went down to Purdue the other night, I rate the Jayhawks' Choke-ability Factor as High.
*So we've got the rematch we all wanted, Indiana-Kentucky. Or at least the rematch Kentucky wanted.
I'd like to think the Wildcats won't be thinking about what the Hoosiers did to them in Bloomington three months ago when they take the floor Friday. But I'd also like to think Warren Buffet is going to call anytime now and offer me $100 million or so, just because.
