Ants win to split in Boise

Just when there was concern whether the Mad Ants would win another game this season, they claimed a 109-100 victory over the Idaho Stampede on Saturday in Boise.

Vernon Macklin, the 6-foot-10 center and property of the Detroit Pistons, scored 24 points and had 20 rebounds to lead the Ants (12-33), who ended a seven-game losing streak. Guard Stephen Graham added 20.

The last time the Ants won a road game was Jan. 28, when they won in Tulsa, Okla., 94-82.

The victory came despite the Ants playing without leading scorer Ron Howard. The 6-foot-5 guard who averages 18 points a game re-injured his thumb in Friday's game in Idaho, and sat out the game Saturday.

The Ants will play next Friday and Saturday in Erie, Pa., visit Canton, Ohio on April 4, then return to Memorial Coliseum for their final two games of the season April 6-7 against Dakota.
