Statement issued Wednesday by Fort Wayne Community Schools:
Kekionga Middle School student Ibrahim Dahab won the Fort Wayne Community Schools 2012 Middle School Persuasive Speech Contest with a speech on “Nuclear Power in Iran.”
Students from each of the 11 middle schools were eligible to participate in the city-wide competition at the Grile Administrative Center on March 23 after winning their school competitions.
First runner-up was Devan Walker from Northwood Middle School, with the topic “Putting a Stop to Child Abuse: Reporting is a Must.” Second runner-up was Lalita Ford from Jefferson Middle School with the topic “Our Decisions, Our Responsibilities.” Other speakers were: Chalis Martin from Miami Middle School, Courtney Louive from Portage Middle School, Noel Resor from Towles Intermediate Montessori School, Kelsey Smith from Memorial Park, Dalton Hughes from Shawnee Middle School and Taylor Chin from Lane Middle School. Blackhawk’s speaker, Leah Murray, was unable to compete.
The contest was broadcast live on LTV-54/24, and will be rebroadcast on March 23 at 3 p.m., March 24 at 7 p.m., March 25 at 8 p.m. and March 28 at 1 p.m.
