Lots of Game 1 coverage

RAPID CITY, S. D. -- Here is the game story off the Komets' 6-3 loss to the Rapid City Rush in the opener of the best-of-seven Turner Conference semifinals.

Click here to see the video recap of the game, including interviews and game clips. Some things that were brough to my attention: The hit from behind at the 1:18 mark that wasn't called, even though Rapid City was on a 5-on-3 power play; the 2:10 mark, where it looks like referee Zak Blazic was going to blow the play dead but hesitated; and the 2:12 mark, where he hip-checks the goal scorer, which is pretty funny.

  • The Komets do have their sights set on a couple of amateurs, but they opted to not to sign any prior to Game 1. "Well, we haven't brought any amateurs in yet because we are

waiting for their eligibility to run out," Komets general manager David Franke

said. "Some of the guys we are eyeing are still in juniors and playing." CHL teams are allowed to bring in two amateurs who don't count against their 19-man playoff roster, a good way to add manpower. The Rush brought in two amateurs – Ross Ring-Jarvi and

Austin Day Chief. "We didn't have to bring them in before (Game 1), so we

didn't see the big rush," Franke said. "Unless we take a lot of hits to the

lineup, we feel like we're in a good spot." Franke wouldn't say which players he was thinking about bringing in – the playoffs are three rounds – but there will likely be at least

one defenseman, since the Komets have only seven including the injured T.J. Miller.

From the Rush's point of view, the victory was big: Click here and click here.
