It soon should be a little easier to find your way to the hospital on the citys west side.
Q. We see multiple examples of cars coming to Lutheran Hospital from the south on Jefferson Boulevard. There should be a sign, a red cross, or something obvious hanging over the intersection on Jefferson that leads to the hospital. – James Schibley
Better directional signs will be coming soon, James, thanks to your observation.
Ive missed this turn before when traveling out there, so Im glad to see someone take action to make it easier to find.
Shan Gunawardena, city traffic engineer, said there are several signs indicating the hospital in the area – they have a white H on a blue background, but he admits there is a lack of signs at the intersection itself.
He said signs will be installed on the overhead signal spans by city crews in the next few weeks ensuring drivers know they are at the Lutheran Medical Park.
The Indiana Department of Transportation recently announced its plans to close Union Chapel Road between Auburn and Diebold roads on April 9 to prepare for the construction of the Interstate 69 interchange.
Widening work began this week on the interstate, and when that is complete the state will be able to shift traffic on I-69 to replace the existing Union Chapel bridge and construct the interchange ramps.
The bridge demolition will begin shortly after April 9 and last about two weeks.
There will be 20-minute traffic stoppages on the interstate that will be controlled by state police. Interstate lanes will be restricted from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday through Friday during the widening and demolition work.
The state will place intermittent lane restrictions on Interstate 469 between the southern I-69 interchange and Winchester Road beginning Monday to make concrete repairs along the interstate. Speed limits will be lowered to 55 mph with some temporary limits of 45 mph when workers are present from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Work on the interstate is expected to be completed by late summer.
Engle Road will be closed at the Norfolk Southern railroad crossing between Ardmore Avenue and Bluffton Road on Monday to replace the crossing nearest to Ardmore. The work is expected to last from 9 a.m. Monday through 4 p.m. Wednesday. A detour will use Ardmore, Lower Huntington Road and Bluffton.
