Skillman supports Lugar in primary

Lt. Gov. Becky Skillman has endorsed Sen. Richard Lugar, R-Ind., in his re-election bid, Lugar’s campaign said Wednesday.

Skillman called Lugar “a champion for Indiana and a pillar of strength and security for our country” during a campaign event Monday night at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. “I also appreciate his constant support for agriculture and homegrown energy.”

Gov. Mitch Daniels, who once worked for Lugar, has also endorsed him in the Republican primary election.

Lugar, who turned 80 on Wednesday, seeks his seventh term. He is being challenged in the May 8 primary election by second-term state Treasurer Richard Mourdock.

Mourdock and Lugar are scheduled to debate April 11 at an Indianapolis TV station, which is offering broadcast feeds to other Indiana media.
