A Fort Wayne police officer was hospitalized Wednesday evening after a vehicle T-boned his squad car while its lights and sirens were activated, a police spokesman said.
Officer Scott Tegtmeyer said the officer suffered injuries that were not life-threatening.
About 7:20 p.m., the officer was going south on Crescent Avenue when he stopped at Coliseum Boulevard with his lights and sirens on.
The other traffic stopped, and the officer entered the intersection, Tegtmeyer said.
The officer’s car was halfway through the intersection when another vehicle hit the officer’s car broadside, pushing it into a third vehicle, Tegtmeyer said.
Aside from the officer, whose name was not released, no other motorists involved were taken to the hospital. The crash is under investigation.
