After one period at Memorial Coliseum, the Komets have a 3-1 lead over the Rapid City Rush.
They've gotten goals, in order, from Mike Vaskivuo, who banked a shot off Konrad Reeder of the Rush; Bobby Chaumont on a rebound; and Chris Auger on a redirection.
Rush goalie Tim Boron was yanked after stopping nine of 12 shots and replaced by Kevin Beech, the former Komets goalie. I don't think any of the goals were Boron's fault, though, and the Rush has really amped up its hitting and gotten a rebound goal from Jeff Kyrzakos.
Fort Wayne has a 2-1 lead in the best-of-seven Turner Conference semifinals.
The Komets are playing without David Starenky, who has a sore shoulder and neck from the hit by Les Reaney in Game 3, a 3-1 victory by the Komets.
Playing for Starenky is rookie Daniel Maggio.
Reaney was suspended one game by the CHL for that hit on Starenky.
"Yeah, I thought the suspension was much deserved," Komets general manager David Franke said. "The game has no place for teams to be hitting players in the head and causing injuries, or potentially causing injuries. Those plays can't be tolerated and the league said that with this."
