Snider's Sims wins Gooden Award

Akilah Sims of Snider is the 2012 Tiffany Gooden Award winner, emblematic of the top basketball player in the SAC this season, boys or girls.

Sims, a senior, was announced as the Gooden winner Monday at the Basketball Awards program honoring the All-SAC and All-Northeast Indiana teams. The All-Northeast Indiana teams and program are sponsored by SportONE Ortho Northeast and The Journal Gazette.

She averaged 23.0 points, 12.2 rebounds and 3.8 steals for the Panthers, who finished second in the SAC, won the sectional and lost in the regional championship game to eventual 4A champ Indianapolis North Central. An IUPUI recruit, she has been selected to the Indiana All-Star team.
