Coroner IDs victim of fatal house fire

The Allen County Coroner’s Office has identified a man found dead in a burning house Thursday in New Haven.

It said in a written statement that Anthony Georgakakis, 41, died accidentally from smoke inhalation.

About 1 p.m. Thursday, the New Haven-Adams Township Fire Department was dispatched to the fire at 1452 Green Road, near New Haven High School. Police said firefighters entered the home through the front door and soon found the man’s body in a front room. He was pronounced dead at the scene. No one else was reported injured. Firefighters extinguished the blaze, which had started on the first floor and caused moderate to heavy damage to the interior of the two-story house. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
