2 die from shooting at northwestern Indiana home

VALPARAISO, Ind. (AP) — Police in northwestern Indiana say a man is in custody in connection with the weekend shooting deaths of a man and a woman at a home.

The Porter County Sheriff's Department says 31-year-old Jennifer Guinn of Hammond was able to call police to the home just outside Valparaiso after she was shot early Saturday. Sheriff's Sgt. Larry LaFlower tells The Times of Munster that arriving officers were able to stop and arrest a 19-year-old Hammond man as he was trying to pull out of the home's driveway.

Officers found Guinn and 40-year-old Jeffery Trinka of Valparaiso inside the home and both were shot multiple times. Trinka was pronounced dead at the scene, while Guinn died at a Valparaiso hospital.

Criminal charges weren't immediately filed against the arrested man.
