TinCaps lose to Silver Hawks
Matt Wisler was cruising. Then he took a bruising.
The TinCaps right-hander from Bryan, Ohio, took a one-hitter into the fourth inning Monday at Coveleski Stadium in South Bend, and exited with a three-run deficit as South Bend used a four-run fourth to vault to a 5-1 victory. Wisler took the loss for the TinCaps (1-3), surrendering five hits and four earned runs in four innings.
Jesse Darrah got the win for the Silver Hawks (2-2), pitching six innings of five-hit ball before Kable Hogben, Willy Paredes and Keith Hessler combined to hold the TinCaps hitless across the last three innings.
The TinCaps scored their only run in the first. Donavan Tate reached on an error, then advanced to third on Casey McElroys double. Tate scored on Zach Komentanis sacrifice fly.
That held up until the fourth, when Wislers day unraveled. A leadoff single led to four South Bend runs on two singles, two doubles, a walk and a throwing error.
For Fort Wayne, which stranded five base runners, Austin Hedges went 2 for 3. Gerson Montilla had two hits for South Bend.
Notes: The TinCaps placed infielder Jose Dore on the disabled list Monday. He was replaced by Duanel Jones, 19, who was called up from extended spring training.
