INDIANAPOLIS — U.S. Sen. Richard Lugar and Indiana Treasurer Richard Mourdock are ready to square off in their lone debate before voters weigh their fate in May.
The two will meet at the WYFI Indianapolis public television station studio Wednesday evening and answer questions from voters. Until now, much of the race between the two men has been fought vicariously on television via a barrage of campaign advertisements.
Lugar is facing one of his toughest election battles as he seeks a seventh term. A series of polls has shown the tea-party backed Mourdock closing in on Lugar in recent months and conservative groups have upped their attacks in the last two weeks on the longtime senator.
Ball State University professor Phil Bremen will moderate the debate for the Indiana Debate Commission.
