After taking a 1-0 first-inning lead when Donavan Tate scored on a balk, Fort Wayne broke the game open with a seven-run fourth inning.

Four straight singles from Casey McElroy, Travis Whitmore, Duanel Jones and Kyle Gaedele provided a run, setting up Hedges’ grand slam home run to left field.

In all, the TinCaps had eight of their 15 hits in the fourth inning.

Tate and McElroy had three hits each, while Whitmore and Gaedele, along with Hedges, had two hits.

Jones, Justin Miller and Alberth Martinez provided the other hits for the visitors.

Four TinCaps pitchers did not allow an earned run. Starter Cody Hebner gave up three hits, struck out nine and walked one to get his first win of the season.

Luis De La Cruz threw two hitless innings, striking out two, while Robert Eisenbach and Matthew Stites each worked an inning.
