TinCaps let game slip away to Loons

Joseph Winker knocked in Jesus Arredondo with a single in the ninth inning as Great Lakes rallied to defeat the TinCaps 5-4 Friday at Dow Diamond in Midland, Mich.

The TinCaps let a 3-1 lead slip away to fall to 3-5.

Starter Joe Ross, the No. 25 pick in the 2011 draft, bounced back from his first outing of the season with a strong performance. The right-hander gave up one run on three hits in five innings. He struck out six. Ross didn’t make it out of the second inning in his first start.

Ross left Friday’s game with Fort Wayne holding the two-run lead.

Great Lakes scored once in the sixth and two more runs in the eighth to take a 4-3 lead. Fort Wayne tied the game with a run in the ninth. Travis Whitmore knocked in Jace Peterson with a triple. Whitman had three hits and two RBI. Peterson also had three hits and scored twice.

The Loons (3-5) answered with the game-winning run in the bottom of the ninth. Arredondo had three hits and scored twice.
