Burglar handed 8 years of prison

– A man recently convicted of burglarizing two businesses and a home in Allen County nearly three years ago was sentenced Thursday to eight years in prison.

Timothy D. Taylor, 40, was serving time in an Illinois prison when local investigators traveled there last year to take his DNA to see whether he was connected to a spate of burglaries in Fort Wayne in 2009.

According to Allen Superior Court records, Taylor burglarized a barbershop, a salon and a homeowner’s garage while in town visiting his brother, who was recovering in a hospital from a gunshot wound at the time.

Taylor told police he did not remember the burglaries because he had been drinking but did not dispute the charges. A swab of Taylor’s DNA matched other DNA found at the scene of the burglaries, court records said.

Last month, Taylor pleaded guilty to three counts of burglary. On Thursday, he was sentenced to eight years on each count, though those sentences were ordered to run concurrent to each other. Taylor was also given 70 days’ credit for jail time served.
