Two men, one apparently armed with a handgun, robbed a credit union Thursday morning in New Haven and stole an employee’s sport utility vehicle to make a getaway, police said.
The men ambushed at least two employees at MidWest America Federal Credit Union and took an undisclosed amount of money, New Haven Police Chief Stephan Poiry said.
Surveillance images released by investigators show one of the robbers in the bank carrying what appears to be a handgun and wearing a dark mask and dark clothes.
Police said the two men left the scene in an employee’s 2009 Saturn Vue.
The black SUV, with Indiana license plate RLE654, has not been found, Poiry said.
About 8:40 a.m. Thursday, authorities received a 911 call from the credit union at 2011 Wayne Haven St., south of Indiana 930, and police were dispatched to the business.
Poiry said the employees had been preparing to open the credit union before the robbery occurred. The branch typically opens at 9 a.m. on Thursdays.
No one was injured in the holdup, the chief said.
New Haven police and the region’s bank robbery task force are investigating the case.
