Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly had a few injury updates after Saturday's practice.
Receiver John Goodman, a former Bishop Dwenger standout, sprained his right ankle. The 6-foot-3, 207-pound senior wore a walking boot and didn't participate in practice.
"If he needed to play, he could have played today," Kelly said. "He's been great all spring."
Tight end Troy Niklas was also held out of practice because of the flu, but Kelly said he is expected to return quickly.
Receiver Luke Massa will not be back as fast. The 6-4, 225-pound junior-to-be suffered an ACL injury, Kelly said.
"It looks like it is going to require surgery," Kelly said. "It will keep him out for about five months."
Linebacker Prince Shembo will be out for six months after surgery was required to repair his turf toe injury. Kelly said a screw had to be inserted into Shembo's foot.
Cornerback Bennett Jackson injured shoulder during Saturday's practice, but Kelly said there wasn't any concern.
"We are not going to do anything with it." Kelly said.
Saturday's practice was open to the media for the entire time, and I will be back later today with observations for the two-hour session.
