Girlfriend critically injured in beating

Suspect called 911, admitted to battery

– A 39-year-old man was arrested after beating his girlfriend with a baseball bat early Friday, leaving her with critical injuries, Fort Wayne police said.

Anthony Robert Ochs dialed 911 shortly before 3 a.m. Friday and told emergency dispatchers that he had just battered his girlfriend, police said.

Officers and medics were sent to a home in the 6300 block of High Point Run, near Coldwater Road and Interstate 69.

When they arrived, Ochs’ 42-year-old girlfriend was unconscious and unresponsive. Medics treated her before taking her to a hospital in critical condition.

Police would not release her name. She remained in critical condition on Friday afternoon, police said.

A records check indicated that there has not been a history of domestic violence reports at the address where the beating occurred, said Officer Jason Anthony, a city police spokesman.

Ochs was taken to the detective bureau for questioning. He was preliminarily charged with aggravated battery and domestic battery.

He was being held without bail Friday evening at the Allen County Lockup.
