Keys to the game

Kyle Gaedele went 2 for 4 with a home run and two RBI for Fort Wayne in a 9-3 loss to Dayton in front of 2,547 fans Monday at Parkview Field.

Here are the highlights:

Key at-bat: Fort Wayne led 1-0, but Dayton had runners on first and second with no outs in the fifth inning. Nick O'Shea placed a bunt down the first-base line. Fort Wayne first baseman Zach Kometani charged and threw to third, trying to cut down the lead runner. But his throw sailed wide of third baseman Duanel Jones. Waldrop and Arias scored. O'Shea went all the way to third on the error because no one was covering the base. He then scored when pitcher Frank Garces was called for a balk.

Key out: Trailing 4-2, Fort Wayne had runners on first and second with no outs in the seventh inning. Matt Colantonio bunted a ball foul with two strikes for an out. Fort Wayne eventually loaded the bases with two outs, but Donavan Tate struck out to end the inning.

Local connection: Dayton's Ryan Wright, a former Homestead standout, went 2 for 5 with one RBI.

Quotable:

"… We can't win like that. They are young, they are going to continue to make mistakes. But those are bad mistakes. Today we played like a little league team." - TinCaps manager Jose Valentin
