Dragons defeat TinCaps

Nick O’Shea knocked in one run and scored twice for Dayton in a 9-3 victory against the TinCaps Monday at Parkview Field.

The Dragons scored three runs in the fifth inning to take the lead for good.

Kyle Waldrop led off the inning with a double. It was the team’s first hit. Junior Arias then walked. Nick O’Shea placed a bunt down the first-base line. Fort Wayne first baseman Zach Kometani charged and threw to third, trying to cut down the lead runner. But his throw sailed wide of third baseman Duanel Jones. Waldrop and Arias scored. O’Shea went all the way to third on the error. He eventually scored when pitcher Frank Garces was called for a balk.

Ryan Wright, a Homestead graduate, went 2 for 5 with one RBI for the Dragons.

Kyle Gaedele had two hits, including a home run, and drove in two for the TinCaps (3-8).
