Police standoff ends peacefully

A police standoff at a park in Huntington ended peacefully after a man surrendered to police after about an hour.

Police were called to Memorial Park about 9:15 p.m. Sunday in response to a domestic dispute, the Huntington Police Department said in a statement.

Officers were told the man may have weapons and found the man inside a vehicle with a shotgun.

The man, 42, refused to drop the shotgun, the statement said, and officers secured the area and started talking to the man.

About an hour later, the man was taken into custody and transported to Parkview Huntington Hospital for further evaluation.

Police did not release the man’s name but did say the case is being forwarded to the Huntington County Prosecutor’s Office.
