Importance of Fort Wayne

Purdue coach Matt Painter discussed the importance of recruiting in Fort Wayne during a visit to the city Thursday for a Boys and Girls Club event.

"The entire state of Indiana is important. That's one of the first things that jump out when you get a job and you start, everyone wants to recruit their own backyard because from a proximity standpoint, it makes sense," Painter said.

"That's also how you gauge what is a good job. A good job is if they have a lot of players in that area. It's easier. You'd rather drive an hour to Indianapolis or two hours to Fort Wayne to recruit than fly across the country a kid.

"Fort Wayne being two hours away, the size, the talent, the coaches, it just makes a lot of sense to give this area a lot of look in the recruiting world."
