Ovation for the Mavericks

INDEPENDENCE, Mo. -- The crowd at the Independence Events Center just gave the Missouri Mavericks an ovation, and it was deserved.

The Komets had pulled to within a goal on Frankie DeAngelis' shot from the point during a 5-on-3 power play -- after referee Chris Pitoscia didn't give Fort Wayne a penalty shot for Chris Auger being hauled down on a brekaway -- but the Mavericks answered on a Sebastien Thinel goal.

The Mavericks lead it 4-2 after two periods.

The Thinel goal was a result of a lazy play by the Komets, who had ample opportunity to get the puck down ice, but Thinel intercepted a pass just outside the blue line before scoring from 15 feet out.

It was a much better period for Fort Wayne than the first, though.
