City-county icon is rededicated as Rousseau Centre

The City-County Building officially changed names Monday.

The 40-year-old building in downtown Fort Wayne has been renovated and will now be known as the Edwin J. Rousseau Centre.

More than 100 people gathered as Marilyn Rousseau helped unveil a plaque honoring her late husband at the dedication ceremony Monday.

Ed Rousseau spent four decades in Allen County and Fort Wayne politics, including terms on the City Council, County Council and county commissioners. He died in 2009 at age 76.

Commissioner Linda Bloom said Rousseau was “a man whose longtime service as an elected official, businessman and community volunteer earned him great respect and admiration which continues to this very day, as evidenced by the turnout for this event.”

The City-County Building has been the home for the administrative offices of city and county governments and was recently renovated to be headquarters for city police and county sheriff.

While many government offices relocated to the new Citizens Square on Berry Street, several county offices will remain in the Rousseau Centre, including assessor, auditor, recorder, treasurer and veterans services.
