Battery conviction brings 6-year term

Morris

A man who was stabbed while beating and trying to rob another man in his home was sentenced Wednesday to six years in prison.

Tyrell D. Morris, 27, was trying to rob a man when the man fought back and stabbed Morris, police said. Police caught up with Morris and arrested him. He was convicted of battery.

Morris, of the 3600 block of Oliver Street, went to the house of a man he knew in January and asked to use the phone. The man didn’t let Morris in but let him use the phone on the porch.

Morris then began to hit the man in the face and asked where his money was. He then dragged the man into the house while hitting him in the face, court records said.

Morris grabbed a knife and began cutting the man, but the man managed to get the knife from Morris. As Morris ran from the house, the man stabbed him in the back several times. Police nabbed Morris at Parkview Hospital.
