ACU endorses Mourdock

The American Conservative Union's political action committee has endorsed Richard Mourdock in his bid to unseat Sen. Richard Lugar, R-Ind., in the May 8 Republican primary election.

ACU Chairman Al Cardenas said in a written statement that Mourdock's record as a businessman and state treasurer "shows that he will bring a needed understanding of free enterprise and sound fiscal policies to the Senate. As Treasurer, Richard Mourdock earned over $1 million in investment income for taxpayers and returned 10% of his budget back to the Treasury each year."

Cardenas was critical of Lugar for supporting the earmarks process and the federal takeover of mortgage buyers Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.
