Versyp receives extension

Purdue women's basketball coach Sharon Versyp agreed to a one-year contract extension through the 2017-18 season, athletic director Morgan Burke announced in a news release Friday.

Versyp will receive $511,000 per year, with bonus opportunities tied to academic performance, athletic performance and paid attendance that could total up to an additional $520,000 annually, according to the release.

"This extension will keep Sharon at the helm of the program for six years and acknowledges Purdue's support for her leadership and the results achieved on her watch," Burke said in a statement. "We clearly believe our best days are ahead of us as we aim to win championships in the Big Ten and nationally. It is good to have one of our own leading the program."

In six seasons, Versyp has guided the Boilermakers to three Big Ten tournament championships (2007, 2008 and 2012) and two NCAA tournament Elite Eight appearances (2007 and 2009). She has a 136-70 record at Purdue (.660 winning percentage), including 21-8 in the postseason (.724 winning percentage), and is 253-135 in 12 seasons as a collegiate head coach (.652 winning percentage).

"Professionally, I am extremely appreciative of the tremendous commitment and support shown to me and my staff by President Córdova, Morgan Burke and the entire Purdue community," Versyp said in a statement. "My staff and I are committed to attracting the most talented student-athletes in Indiana and nationwide. It is our goal to maintain and elevate our nationally competitive basketball program in the years to come and continue to have outstanding students that display excellent citizenship and compete for championships.

"Personally, I am extremely thankful and blessed for the opportunities this new contract provides myself and my extended family."
