Wild stuff, tied game

Well, it's not often that something happens that I haven't seen before. But a penalty shot 19 seconds into a playoff game qualifies as the Komets and Wichita ended the first period tied at 2.

That's what happened after Wichita's R.G. Flath covered his hand on the puck in the crease, sweeping away a rebound. On the resulting penalty shot, Mike Vaskivuo scored.

Tough to say if Flath's hand was covering on it, but, basically, anything that isn't sliding it away with the side of your glove becomes a penalty-shot situation.

But the Thunder has shown some heart tonight.

It got a power-play goal from Daniel Tetrault, off a rebound. The Komets answered with a Daniel Maggio power-play goal.

And Wichita tied it late in the first period, after Matt Summers steered around Brent Henley and went high on goalie Nick Boucher.
