Komets capture Cup

In what may have been their final CHL game, the Komets achieved the CHL's highest honor.

They defeated the Wichita Thunder 6-3 Monday night to capture the Ray Miron Presidents' Cup with a 4-1 series win.

A crowd of 9,560 watched in delight after the Komets came back from an early deficit – Aaron Davis scored on a penalty shot 2:29 into the game – to score six of the next seven goals.

Bobby Chaumont scored twice for Fort Wayne, which also got goals from Colin Chaulk, Frankie DeAngelis, Lincoln Kaleigh Schrock and Mike Vaskivuo.

It's the Komets' ninth title in their 60 seasons. And all but one of them – the 1973 IHL title – were clinched at the Coliseum.

Fort Wayne has won championships in the IHL, UHL and CHL.

This was their fourth championship in five seasons, including three in the IHL.

The Komets are likely moving to the ECHL this summer, along with Evansville.
