Covering the Komets winning the CHL President's Cup takes teamwork. We thought that the Komets were going to win on Saturday so I changed my shift to help Michelle Davies. Sam Hoffamn came in on his day off to cover the morning shift.
On Saturday nights, we have really early deadlines. We were also covering the game for the Thunder's hometown newspaper. This meant that during first period, one person covered the Thunders at one end of the ice, and the other shot the Komets at the other end. Those photos were edited and shipped off during the second period. For the third period, Michelle and I staked out different angles for the celebration. Only it never happened, so I found myself talking over strategy with Swikar again on Monday.
At the end of the game, we decided that Swikar would shoot behind the goal to get the team mobbing the goalie. I found a way into the penalty box near the bench to shoot early celebration of the team during the last seconds of the game. Between the two of us we tried to cover every angle we could think of and still make the deadlines for the next day's morning paper.
