Fort Wayne shortstop Jace Peterson suffered a neck injury after colliding with teammate Colin Rea, according to team officials.
Peterson ran in and then dove for a pop-up behind the mound in the first inning of Thursday's game with South Bend. Rea raced back for the ball and the two collided.
Peterson was taken to Parkview Regional Medical Center for further evaluation.
"When I went out there, he stayed down, but he was talking. He knew where he was and he responded to all the questions the doctors asked him. He wanted to get up and walk on his own, but the doctors said no," TinCaps manager Jose Valentin said.
"He's a strong kid. He had feeling in his fingers. But that's something you have to be careful."
