And Another Thing

Arise and walk, New Jersey Generals

Now here's some exciting news for all of you who still wonder what the heck ever happened to the Memphis Showboats.

The USFL is back, baby!

And playing in the spring, the way God intended.

Time again to remember fondly the Showboats, the Houston Gamblers, the Los Angeles Express, the Chicago Blitz. And how about those Boston/New Orleans/Portland Breakers?

The original USFL wasn't just some fly-by-night organization. It was, first of all, where the likes of Herschel Walker, Doug Flutie, Reggie White, Jim Kelly and Steve Young got their professional start. And a lot of the wide-open football you're seeing in the NFL now can be traced back 25 years to the USFL.

If this incarnation has as much influence on the pro game, Fred Biletnikoff and Co. -- the "Co.", by the way, includes Snider grad Jim Steeg -- will have rolled sevens.
