And Another Thing

Josh Beckett wipes his head in the dugout after being taken out of the game in the third inning Thursday.

Much ado about very little

I've been told before, countless times by many people, that I Just Don't Get It. But I Just Don't Get this whole Josh Beckett flap in Boston.

Guy got booed off the mound last night in an 8-3 shellacking by the Indians, an apparent reaction to the news that he played golf on his off day a day after being scratched from the lineup because of a tight lat muscle in his back.

This was not all that surprising, considering that Red Sox fans are among the more irrational of the species. But a few of points still need to be made here.

1. It was his day off. Lots of pitchers play golf on their days off.

2. It wasn't like he tore a rotator cuff. He had a stiff muscle in his back. By the next day, who's to say the stiffness wasn't gone?

3. It was his day off.

In other words: Get a grip, folks.
