Keys to the game

West Michigan scored four runs in the eighth inning on the way to 5-3 victory against the TinCaps in front of 4,809 fans Sunday at Parkview Field.

Here are the highlights.

Key hit: Dean Green hit a two-run home run off of Matt Stites to give the Whitecaps a 5-3 lead. It is the first run Stites has surrendered this season (Justin Hancock was charged with the other run).

Going for third: Kyle Gaedele led off the third inning for Fort Wayne with a triple. He had two triples Friday against South Bend.

Numbers: Mike Gallic went 2 for 4 for Fort Wayne. He is 5 for his last 7. … Stites now has a 0.59 ERA. … Frank Garces gave up one run on three hits in five innings. He lowered his ERA to 2.44, but is 1-2 this season. He did not factor in the decision.

Roster moves: Fort Wayne manager Jose Valentin announced some roster moves after the game. Infielder Justin Miller will go to San Diego's Advanced-A team in Lake Elsinore, Calif. Outfielder Corey Adamson will go to extended spring training in Peoria, Ariz. Outfielders Lee Orr and Everett Williams will join the team. Williams has played for the TinCaps for parts of the last two seasons.
