State seeks comment on utility tree-trimming proposal

IURC statement as issued Wednesday about Thursday’s hearing:

What: The Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission (IURC) has scheduled a public meeting to accept comments on its proposed tree-trimming rule. A copy of the proposed rule can be found here:

When: May 24, 2012 at 6:00 p.m. EDT

Where: PNC Center

Hearing Room 222

101 W. Washington Street

Indianapolis, IN 46204

For those unable to attend, the IURC will live stream the meeting. To watch it live, please visit:

Why: After conducting a statewide investigation into tree-trimming practices, the IURC issued a decision in November 2010. In its decision, the IURC determined that certain topics, such as customer notification and dispute resolution, should be further addressed through a formal rulemaking. The proposed rule stems from this decision and reflects the input of stakeholders throughout the process.

How: Consumers who would like to submit written comments may send them to the Office of Utility Consumer Counselor (OUCC) online at, or by mail, email, or fax:

Mail: Consumer Services Staff

Indiana Office of Utility Consumer Counselor

115 W. Washington St., Suite 1500 South

Indianapolis, IN 46204

Fax: (317) 232-5923

Written comments should include the consumer’s name, mailing address, and a reference to “IURC Rulemaking No. 10-04.” The OUCC must receive all comments no later than noon, EDT, on June 14, 2012. This date marks the final opportunity for public comment on the proposed rule.
