Purdue will open the NCAA baseball tournament Friday against Valparaiso.

Kentucky and Kent State are also in the Gary Regional.

The field for the 64-team NCAA tournament was announced Monday.

Purdue is the top seed in the Gary Regional, with games at U.S. Steel Yard. The Boilermakers have a 44-12 record. Valparaiso is the No. 4 seed in the region. The Crusaders are 35-23.

Kentucky (43-16) is the No. 2 seed. Kent State (41-17) is the No. 3 seed.

An NCAA Regional features a double-elimination format. The schedule calls for two games on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Tentative game times are set for 4 and 8 p.m. daily. If necessary, a seventh and final game would be played Monday at 8 p.m.
