Ohio spas searched in prostitution investigation

WARREN, Ohio (AP) — Authorities have searched eight massage parlors in a northeast Ohio city after a months-long investigation into suspected prostitution.

State investigators joined police Wednesday in the searches at massage parlors in Warren, about 50 miles southeast of Cleveland. Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine says agents were gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses about allegations of illegal sexual activity and other potential crimes, including human trafficking and money laundering.

No charges were immediately filed, and the parlors were not shut down.

An attorney that has represented seven massage parlors in a lawsuit over city restrictions on their business told the Tribune Chronicle the sites were not involved in human trafficking.

State investigators got involved in the case last summer after community groups and Warren police raised concerns and asked for help.
