LAFAYETTE – South Side gave up four unearned runs in the first inning and couldn't recover in losing to Zionsville 9-2 in the championship game of the Lafayette regional Saturday at Loeb Stadium.
Zionsville (28-5) took advantage of a South Side error in the first inning and jumped out to a 4-0 lead that the Eagles never relinquished.
It was the first regional championship appearance for the Archers (20-8), who defeated McCutcheon 5-1 to get into the title game.
Junior DH Garrison Bryan led South's offensive attack with two hits, including an RBI double in the seventh inning.
