FORT WAYNE – A police officer thwarted a drugstore robbery Sunday morning, struggling with the robber before shocking him with a stun gun and taking him into custody, according to the Fort Wayne Police Department.
Responding to a report of a holdup shortly after 10 a.m., the officer entered the CVS Pharmacy, 5802 S. Anthony Blvd., and saw a man running from the rear of the store, where the pharmacy counter is, toward the front.
The officer ordered the man to stop and lie on the floor, but instead the man charged at the officer. The two struggled, and the officer shocked the man with a Taser stun gun, police said.
The man, identified as Aaron A. McAtee, was arrested and preliminarily charged with misdemeanor resisting law enforcement and three felonies: robbery, intimidation and cocaine possession.
Police learned that McAtee had presented a pharmacist with a note that demanded prescription drugs. The suspect said he had a weapon but did not show one. He got the drugs and then ran to the front of the store where he was taken into custody, police said.
McAtee, 36, was being held Sunday at the Allen County Lockup in lieu of $38,250 bail.
