    Against a dominant foe, the No. 14 IPFW men’s volleyball season came to an end Wednesday night in the semifinals of the MIVA tournament. The Mastodons fell to No. 1 Loyola Chicago 3-0 (27-25, 25-19, 25-21) at Gentile Arena in Chicago.

IPFW wins Sportsmanship Award

IPFW has received the Summit League Sportsmanship Award for the 2011-12 athletic season, the conference announced Tuesday. It is the first time IPFW has received the honor.

The league award is given annually to the institution that is judged by its peers to be the best in the league in living up to the ideals of sportsmanship. Areas for evaluation include student-athlete conduct, staff/administrator conduct, coaches' conduct and event management.

In another Summit League announcement, IPFW finished in eighth place in the Summit League Commissioner's Cup competition for 2011-12. The Mastodons had 60 points, far behind first-place North Dakota State's 111 1/2. IPFW finished ahead of IUPUI by two points, and was four points ahead of Western Illinois.

IPFW finished last in the men's competition with 22 1/2 points, behind No. 1 Oral Roberts' 43 1/2, and the IPFW women were eighth with 37 1/2 points, behind North Dakota State's 71. Points are awarded on a descending scale of 10-9-8-7 ..., reflecting regular season standings.
