The Fort Wayne TinCaps will host needlecrafters for Stitch N’ Pitch on June 24.

Needlecrafters put TinCaps in stitches

Area needlecrafters made last year’s Stitch N’ Pitch such a success that the Fort Wayne TinCaps decided to host it again this year.

The biggest change this year is the date. Last year’s Stitch N’ Pitch was earlier in the season and ended up being a rainy day for the needlecrafters, ticket sales manager Brent Harring said.

So, this year, the chosen game is June 24.

The ball club had hoped to sell between 100 and 150 tickets last year and ended up selling more than 200.

With such a successful event, it was a no-brainer to bring it back to Parkview Field this year.

With sponsorship from DRG in Berne, nicer gift bags will be available to attendees this year, Harring said.

In addition, two local yarn stores – Sarah Janes and Simply Sock Yarn, as well at Stitch N Frame on Bluffton Road – are promoting the event and selling blocks of tickets so their customers can sit together. So far between 50 and 60 tickets have been sold.

For $15 you get a seat, a gift bag and a hot dog, chips and drink. If you have a loved one who isn’t a stitcher, they can get just a game ticket for $9 and sit with the Stitch N’ Pitch crowd, same as last year.

The deadline for tickets, if you want them mailed to you, is Monday. But Harring said fans who are willing to have their tickets held at will-call can order after that date.

The ball club has set aside 250 seats behind the net at home plate for needlecrafters to sit and stitch without the worry of dodging foul balls, Harring said. In addition, 250 goody bags have been ordered and will be given to the first 250 to buy tickets for the game.
