And Another Thing

Thank you, sir, may I have another?

Apparently the horse track isn't God's scene, either.

The dying Sport of Kings got another boot in the, um, fetlocks today, with the stunning news that I'll Have Another's bid for the first Triple Crown since 1978 is over before he ever steps foot on the track at Belmont.

A swollen tendon not only forced the horse to scratch after winning the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness, it also forced him into retirement.

The only good news in this is that at least the well-being of the horse took precedent over the Big Prize, a PR gain for a sport that's been taking well-deserved broadsides lately over the inconvenient fact that thoroughbreds are dying like flies all over the country. So, at least that was a win.

As for the Belmont .... well, without I'll Have Another, I predict its TV rating will be somewhere around 5.

As in, "Five viewers."
