Motorcyclist killed in I-69 crash with deer is ID'd

The Huntington County Coroner's Office has identified a Fort Wayne-area man who was killed late Thursday after his motorcycle hit a deer.

Patrick Harris, 52, of Bertinelli Cove in a neighborhood north of the city, died at the scene after being ejected from the motorcycle, the coroner's office said in a written statement.

The Markle Police Department said a call came in shortly before 11:25 p.m. Thursday about the crash on Interstate 69 north of the 86 mile marker in Huntington County.

It said Harris was going north when a deer ran into the motorcycle's path. The coroner's office said Harris was not wearing a helmet.

The Markle department was assisted by the Huntington County Rescue, Wells County EMS, Huntington County EMS and the Parkview Samaritan Helicopter.
