Vikings fall in 4A softball title game

INDIANAPOLIS – Huntington North lost to Plainfield 3-1 in the Class 4A softball state championship Saturday at Ben Davis.

The Vikings (23-8) led 1-0 in the bottom of the sixth inning when the Quakers (23-9) scored three times.

Erin Rethlake (7-2) was the tough-luck losing pitcher for Huntington North, giving up just one hit.

She had a no-hitter through five innings before surrendering a single in the sixth.

It was the first state finals appearance for both teams.
