Campaign watch

Superintendent Tony Bennett's campaign has reported another large contribution from Merrillville businessman Dean V. White. The 89-year-old hotel/billboard magnate just gave Bennett $25,000 toward his re-election effort. White has now contributed $125,000 to Bennett's campaign chest and $750,000 to Republican gubernatorial candidate Mike Pence.

His son, Bruce White, was appointed by Gov. Mitch Daniels to the Purdue University Board of Trustees in 2011. Dean White is ranked 719th on the Forbes Billionaires list.

Glenda Ritz, the Democratic nominee-apparent, has filed her first large contribution report with the Indiana Campaign Finance division. She received $30,000 from I-PACE, the political action committee for the Indiana State Teachers Association. Ritz is a teacher and media specialist with Washington Township Schools in Marion County
