Keys to the game

Fort Wayne failed to score a run in a game for the first time this season, falling to Lansing 7-0 Wednesday at Parkview Field.

Here are the highlights.

Key hit: K.C. Hobson hit a solo home run off of Adys Portillo in the second inning. The opposite-field homer hit off the Huntington University sign on the left-field foul pole.

Shutout streak: Fort Wayne became the final team in the Midwest League to get shutout this season. The TinCaps haven't scored a run since the first inning of Tuesday's game against Lansing.

Portillo's numbers: The right-hander saw his ERA rise to 1.92 in the loss. He suffered his second consecutive defeat. Portillo allowed three runs, two earned, and struck out six in the loss.

Still going: Travis Whitmore went 1 for 4, extending a hitting streak to nine games. That's the longest hitting streak for the TinCaps this season.

Quotable:

"It was one of those days where anything good goes against you. But that's the type of baseball we've been playing. Everything has been crazy in the first half."

- TinCaps manager Jose Valentin
