Two pairs of bluesbirds are hanging out in my neighbor's yard. One pair seems to have settled on his birdhouse this year and now appear to be guarding it. Last year a pair nested in my bluebird house, and my neighbor was a bit jealous about that.
My neighbor spent last winter researching bluebirds and ended up putting his house on a pole 12 feet high facing south over an expansive yard.
The bluebirds have been using the bird baths in my yard, but when they noticed my neighbor's sprinkler they left for the moving water.
My neighbor put out mealy worms in a special bluebird feeder. His mealy worms are the dead variety from Wild Birds Unlimited. I have heard that bluebirds prefer live mealy worms, so I went to North Side Bait and Tackle store and bought some.
I think the bluebirds are eating them. The mealy worms are there in a hanging basket off a pole when I head to work in the morning and are gone when I come home.
Between my neighbor and I the bluebirds should enjoy their stay this summer.
