Pedestrian struck by driver in Steuben

A man pouring a cup of coffee while driving struck an Ashley woman early Tuesday morning in Steuben County.

Becky Young, 32, was walking along Grapevine Road toward County Road 700 South, northeast of Ashley, when she was hit by a vehicle driven by a 36-year-old Pleasant Lake man, the Steuben County Sheriff’s Department said.

Young was flown to Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne with leg and head injuries. She was listed in critical condition Tuesday afternoon.

The statement said the driver told police he was pouring a cup of coffee from a container as he was driving down the road when his vehicle struck the woman.
